Matthew 25:35, 36, 40

35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me....40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

BONANZA!

'Bonanza Weekends' are a crazy-fun way to do 'experiential learning community' together. They evolved out of a

number of house-adventures, including former weekly drop-in dinners and monthly outreach group projects.

We're not sure how we got the name – it seems that somehow through the joking and brainstorming we started

calling this thing a 'Bonanza' and it stuck!

WHAT'S THE BONANZA?

It's is a weekend of opportunities to serve, learn, work, fellowship, grow spiritually, eat, worship, and play together.

WHEN IS IT?

Second Weekend of every month (Novemeber – May) and the third weekend for the month of October

(due to Thanksgiving weekend).

WHAT HAPPENS?

1. SATURDAY SERVICE PROJECTS:

- Consistently: Serving dinner at Wesley Urban Ministry's Soup Kitchen

- Randomly: Neighbourhood garbage clean-ups, cleaning the Men's Residence at Mission Services, field trips

with the residents at Micah House Refugee Services, building projects for local ministries, working with

Helping Hands Street Mission, community ball-hockey tournaments, handing out flowers and valentines on

Barton Street, baking cookies with neighbourhood kids... and more!!!

2. SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP:

- prayer walk, potluck, worship, and guest speakers from the Hamilton area on topics of love, justice,

grace and community. Former speakers include:

November 2009:     Helen – Helping Hands Street Ministry

                                    (“A Story of God's Grace”)

January 2010:          Sue Carr - Mission Services

("Relational Justice: Being-With rather than Doing-For")

February 2010:        Karen Eliott - Sophia House

                                    (“The Love of God”)

March 2010:            Mona Locs - Welcome Inn & Little Bethel

("I Will Never Leave You: A Testimony of God's Love in Adversity")

April 2010:              Scott Jones - Micah House

                                    ("Refugee Identity in God's Community")

May 2010:               Steve Studebaker – McMaster Divinity College

(“The Kingdom of God: a Horizon of Grace”)

WHO CAN GET INVOLVED?

You can! All ages are welcome – families too.

If you're interested in joining us on a Bonanza weekend please let either Marion or Marijke know so we can make

plans with the appropriate ministries (905-218-5209 or info@matthew25house.com). Most people swing by for a

Saturday afternoon service project and then come back for Sunday night fellowship, but if you want to stay the whole

weekend and need a place to crash... well, we can't promise Hilton-quality accommodations but extra mattresses

and futons are available.  :)  You may want to bring a sleeping bag.

We hope you can join us sometime soon!
